What is the difference between solid and engineered hardwood?
Solid hardwood is one piece of wood all the way through, so it can be refinished many times over the years. Engineered hardwood has a real wood top layer over layers of plywood, which makes it more stable when temperature and humidity change and often a better fit over concrete. We carry both.
Is factory-finished or site-finished hardwood better?
Either can be the right choice. Factory-finished flooring is inspected for defects at the mill and skips the dust and odor of finishing at home. Finishing on site allows a closer color match to existing woodwork or cabinets.
Can hardwood work in a home with pets?
It can, with the right finish. Hardwood is not the most scratch-resistant option, so if pets are hard on your floors we will point you to the toughest choices in stock, or to laminate and vinyl if that suits the room better.
How do I clean and care for hardwood?
Sweep or vacuum regularly and mop with a cleaner made for hardwood. Do not soak the wood with water, and wipe up spills right away to protect the finish.
How long does hardwood last?
With proper care, hardwood can last 30 years or more, and it can be refinished along the way.
Is hardwood safe over radiant heat?
Engineered hardwood is typically the safer choice over radiant heat systems. Solid hardwood can be more sensitive to temperature swings, so ask us about the best option for your setup.
